  • Study Finds Global Warming Caused by Architects

Architects and designers that colorize presentation drawings with marker pens are deteriorating the ozone at an alarmingly rapid rate, study says. The pens they use produce toxic fumes that emit greenhouse gasses.

Some of the biggest offenders are the users of extra large Studio Utility Pens or SUMs claiming that it is safer to use the bigger pens. “Small pens don’t hold up in an accident” Said Filbert Morris of JMGFR&P Architects of Denver, CO. “The bigger pens can take a hit and that is safer for my staff”. High end designers that attract higher fees tend to own and use the biggest and smelliest markers as a status symbol. “Our clients expect big things from our firm” The SUM pens allow us to maintain a high level of competitive flare.”

Still others seem to feel that they are doing their part for the environment by using smaller markers and even so-called Hybrid markers that use a combination of crayon and ink. Don’t be fooled by the pens labeled “odorless”. These pens still emit the same amount of chlorofluorocarbons that the smelly pens do. The study shows that hybrid and economy size pens do little to stem the flow putrid fumes into the atmosphere.

Chad Cocktoasten of MOS in Chicago, a firm that designs high-rise buildings on nearly every continent, says he finds the big smelly markers pretentious and boring. “We have to quickly get our CAD designs colorized in a spectacular way in order to capture a client’s imagination. Our technology guys are experimenting with a tool called Impression that allows us to create spectacular presentations directly from our CAD files without ever having to use high emission pens at all. Hey, I have kids and I want this world to be habitable for them, and their kids”. The EPA states that Impression is a tool that could actually reverse global warming and for $495, should be considered as standard in all design studios.
