  • More products...

    Posted 03/10/08 by Lisa Crounse

You spoke and we listened. A few weeks ago, a grassroots e-mail campiagn from customers started and as a result, we've added a few more products to the list of products that will offer Impression 2 as a Subscription benefit.

If you have a current Subscription contract for one of the following products, you will be able to download Impression from the Subscription Center when it is released -

    AutoCAD
    AutoCAD Architecture
    AutoCAD Civil 3D
    AutoCAD Map 3D
    AutoCAD MEP
    AutoCAD Revit Architecture Suite
    AutoCAD Revit MEP Suite
    AutoCAD Revit Structure Suite
    Revit Architecture
    Revit MEP
and last, but not least, Revit Structure.

We look forward to seeing all the great new images that will come from these new users!

Autodesk Impression 2 will include a ton of new blocks!

You'll see a bunch of them when you first open the Blocks palette -

But you'll find a whole lot more if you link to the Block Library from the Block palette. Once there, you can pick an choose what you want.

  • New - "Real" Watercolor

    Posted 02/25/08 by Lisa Crounse

As we announced on 12 February, a new version of Impression is in the pipes. In my next few blog entries, I'll introduce you to some of the new features in Impression.

For me, one of the most exciting new features is the watercolor style.

    Impression09_BMP_Splash_v2_small.bmp

Yes. We did have watercolor styles before, but they were kind of cobbled together from gradient styles and such. These new styles are the real deal - made with a watercolor effect which even shows the texture of the "watercolor" paper behind it.

  • Help me help you.

    Posted 02/15/08 by Lisa Crounse

It seems that we're having some issues with the e-Learning set up. I'm trying to get a feel for how many people are or are not able to see the lessons. If you have been able to see them, can you drop me a line (lisa.crounse@autodesk.com) and let me know what browser you are using? If you have not, can you do the same?

Thanks! These are great lessons so I am hoping we can get this fixed soon.

This morning Autodesk announced the 2009 family of products. If you read way, way, way, down in the AutoCAD press release, you will see that there is a mention of Impression, "Autodesk Impression software also is included with AutoCAD 2009 subscription purchases."

Here is a bit more detail on that - At World Press Days (taking place as we speak) it will be announced that Autodesk Impression 2 (to be released this Spring) will be available to Subscription customers of AutoCAD, AutoCAD Architecture, AutoCAD Civil 3D, AutoCAD Map 3D, AutoCAD MEP, and AutoCAD Revit Architecture Suite. If you read between the lines, this means that Impression will no longer be sold as a stand-alone application, and that the Technology Preview program which we've been running in select regions will come to an end.

Since we launched the first Technology Preview of Impression, customer feedback has been overwhelmingly positive. By offering Impression as a benefit of Subscription, Autodesk is able to greatly expand distribution of Impression by making it available as a download to Subscription customers worldwide.

Second, Autodesk is committed to making the Autodesk Subscription program the best way to stay current with the latest design technology. A few years back Autodesk started releasing AutoCAD on a yearly basis to offer greater value for Subscription customers. With the release of the 2009 family of products, Autodesk is adding Impression to the mix of subscription benefits so that subscription customers gain not only the benefits of simplified software management, etc. etc. but access to exclusive technology offerings.

So, when will Impression 2 be available on the Subscription Center? Well, we can't tell you that quite yet, but we can say that the wait won't be too long. If you are using Technology Preview software (available as a download in certain regions of Europe and Asia) your software will continue to work until the end of April. Impression 1 customers in the US will receive an e-mail with more details in a bit. Stay tuned.

If you have specific questions about this, please do not hesitate to conatct me directly at lisa.crounse@autodesk.com.

P.S. We still have a beta program running for Impression. If you are interested in giving us your feedback, please go to the MyFeedback site (http://myfeedback.autodesk.com) and click on the “Sign up” link located in the upper left hand side. Fill out the requested information and be sure to include the Beta Code “ColibriBeta” in the field at the top of the form. Don’t forget to hit the “Submit” button at the bottom to submit your application for review! You should receive a response within a few days.

  • Impression e_learning Courses are Live!

    Posted 01/30/08 by Lisa Crounse

Whether you are just getting started with Impression or are an experienced user, we bet that there is something for you in the new e_learning lessons.

Those of you who are on subscription will recognize the interface and the lesson format, as its the same one used for lessons offered on the Subscrption Center for other Autodesk products.

BTW - we're having a little issue getting the lessons to display in the "prescribed" order. That said, the lessons are designed to be indivual components, so its easy to take them in any order. That said, if you are starting at the very beginning, here is a reccommended order:

    1.Getting Started
    2.Appearance Styles
    3.Layer Styling
    4.Area Styling
5.Using Blocks and Block Substitution Maps
    6.Working with Drawings
    7.Working with Layers
    8.The Toolbox

Enjoy! and let us know what you think!
