  • Its software worth stealing for.

    Posted 06/21/07 by Lisa Crounse

This week I've been calling all of our customers who purchased Impression in the United States and Canada. I'm doing these calls as we want to make sure that everything is going okay with the software and to answer any questions that might have come up in the first few weeks of using Impression.

I am happy to say that people are very happy with Impression. They've also given me some really useful feedback about things that they like and dislike with the application. I'm sharing all of this with our design and development teams. Its been really cool to meet so many enthusiastic people in such a short time.

I've also had a few strange calls. Here is how one went yesterday:

Lisa: Hi, I'm Lisa Crounse and I'm calling from Autodesk to follow-up on your purchase of Impression. Is everything going as you expected?
Woman on phone: What are you calling about?
    Lisa: Autodesk Impression. Its software.
Woman on phone: Software for what? (at this point I knew that this was not going to go well)
Lisa: Software for creating renderings from CAD software.
Woman on phone: I have no idea what you are talking about. When did I buy this and how much did I pay?
Lisa: You purchased it at the end of March and you paid $495.
Woman on phone: Oh geez, thats from when my credit card was stolen. We got all of those illegal charges cleared up.

Needless to say, at that point I knew that our call was over and apologized for taking up her time.

I can't help but wonder why someone would use a stolen credit card to buy software. Is Impression just that great that even potential felons want to get their hands on it? Here's my tip of the day. If you are going to steal someone's credit card, and most likely identity, buy something fun. Like shoes. Or a new Gucci bag. Not something that can be traced like software!

  • Share your files with us.

    Posted 06/12/07 by Lisa Crounse

As you can imagine, we do A LOT of testing as part of the software development process. In order to do this testing, we use a lot of different files to see how the application will work under a variety of circumstances. While our team has a decent set of real world examples to use, we could sure use more. As we all know, not every DWG is created equal, and as development progresses, we want to make sure that we are testing Impression under as many circumstances as possible.

So, if you have some DWG files that you could share with us exclusively for testing purposes, we would be grateful. You can send them directly to me at lisa.crounse@autodesk.com. If they are too big to send (>10K) please drop me an e-mail and we'll figure out another way to transfer the files. We promise that these files will remain private and will only be used for testing purposes.
